Embark on a stunning 8-hour excursion through the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the northern province of Jujuy, Argentina. This excursion showcases the remarkable colors of the ravine, created over thousands of years by the oxidation of minerals in the hills. The journey begins from Jujuy city, traveling along the RN 9 highway, allowing you to explore picturesque towns and dramatic landscapes. You'll pass through the charming Volcán, the vibrant Purmamarca with its iconic Cerro de los 7 Colores, and the historic Tilcara, known for its cultural significance. As you continue through the ravine, you will stop at Humahuaca, the largest town, where the streets are alive with culture and history. The stop in Humahuaca provides ample time for a regional lunch, with dishes featuring llama meat and an opportunity to immerse yourself in the local festivities, particularly the region's famous carnival.
On the way, you will also visit Uquía, a small town with the 17th-century San Francisco de Paula church, where you can admire the Arcabuceros Angels, paintings from Cuzco-Peru dating back to the time of colonization. At Huacalera, you will literally stand on the Tropic of Capricorn, and in Maimará, you will enjoy the stunning views of the Paleta del Pintor or Painter's Palette, where the multi-colored hills create an incredible natural artwork. After lunch in Humahuaca, you will return, with the option of stopping intermittently along the way to capture more of the region’s beauty.
Once you reach Uquía, you will transfer to a 4x4 vehicle for the ride to Hornocal, where you will be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the Mountain of 14 Colors. This unique geological formation offers some of the most stunning landscapes in the entire region. On the way back, you will stop in Humahuaca for a short break, allowing you to appreciate the town one last time. As there is no time to stop at a restaurant, it is recommended to bring a light snack or lunch for the trip. Please note that if departing from Purmamarca or Tilcara, some of the earlier stops, such as those in Jujuy city, may be skipped.

Banger ! Incredible place. We got there with a tour that we booked on the spot at the station for about 10 USD pp. It's a 45 minutes drive from Humahuaca with a little hike of 25 min. to the viewpoint. Highly recommended spot 😊
Kurt

Really nice. You can drive by yourself to the view point whiteout any problem. Entrance at the top is 1.000 pesos per person!

Well worth the drive. Dont underestimate the altitude and the climate - a little rain in town might mean snow or hail at the top: bring layers! Take your time and stay at the car park if you’re already feeling the altitude there, the climb back up the hill is tough

To start with… the tourist info place will tell you a guide or 4x4 is needed so they can obviously make some money - and I don’t blame them at all but it is a very well maintained gravel road. Finding it on GPS was a bit tricky but not too difficult. From town it took us about 45 minutes or so to get to the mountain. We arrived just before sunset which is not supposed to be the most ideal time to go for the colors to pop but it’s the time we had… and the colors were incredible so I imagine during peak hours they must be indescribable! However the one huge bonus? We had to pay nothing to get in AND we had the entire place to ourselves - NOBODY else was there other than a couple people for 10 minutes until they left. The hike down was fantastic and this place and the Grand Canyon are the only 2 places I stared at for an hour and couldn’t believe it was real! If you are within a day drive it is 100% worth going to see. There’s are also some good restaurants and places to stay in town. Great stop and one of the most beautiful places you will ever lay eyes on!

This Location is WRONG! You are in the city by this point! You need to drive a gravel road for 40 minutes up to 4300m elevation hight! The high can take your breath away so do everything slowly. If it’s dry enough the road is easy accessable by a normal car. No 4x4 needed. The lady at the entrance will charge 500 pesos per person
