Embark on an unforgettable excursion to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Humahuaca, located in the northern province of Jujuy, just a few kilometers from the Bolivian border. Departing from San Salvador de Jujuy, the journey begins with a visit to Purmamarca, home to the stunning Cerro de los 7 Colores (Hill of Seven Colors), where vibrant hues of red, orange, and purple create a breathtaking natural landscape. The tour continues to Tilcara, Humahuaca— the largest town in the ravine— and Uquía, where you’ll find the 17th-century Church of San Francisco de Paula, featuring ancient paintings of the Arcabuceros Angels from colonial times. A visit to Huacalera follows, where you’ll step across the imaginary Tropic of Capricorn, before reaching Maimará to see the striking La Paleta del Pintor (Painter’s Palette), an impressive mountain range known for its vivid, painterly hues.
In Humahuaca, the longest stop of the day, you’ll have the opportunity to indulge in regional dishes, with llama meat being a local specialty. The town is steeped in rich cultural traditions, with carnival celebrations playing a prominent role in its vibrant atmosphere. After lunch, you’ll have time to explore the streets of this charming town before retracing your steps back, with stops along the way to take in the diverse and colorful landscapes that make Argentina’s north so special.

Petra

Sept.25: we only just stayed 1 night in Humahuaca, but we could have stayed 3 more nights. The tranquil town is surrounded by many colorful mountains. Had nice bars & restaurants.

The road is gravel and not very long; it takes about an hour by bus. You can take the bus from the Humahuaca bus station and it costs $10,000 round trip. The price includes a guide who will talk about the formation of the ravine and other information. Each passenger is given a bottle of cold water. The stay up there is 40 minutes due to the altitude. It's cold, so I recommend bringing a sweatshirt or jacket. I went in September, but if you want to go during peak season, it's best to book a ticket a few hours in advance due to availability. I believe there are three departures per day.

Beautiful and peaceful place. It breathes history, its cobblestone streets, the houses with adobe brick walls, hark back to another era... A beautiful place.

A very beautiful place to visit. You can buy things, eat, and walk around. Everything is very nice. I had a great time there. I chatted with the people and bought souvenirs to give as gifts. There are really beautiful handicrafts. I recommend visiting. If you're coming from another town, keep in mind the bus schedules, as they aren't very frequent. I went from Tilcara and returned the same day.
