The Rila Monastery is a wonderful place to visit and our guide Hiristo took the experience to yet another level. He is extremely good at his work. However the bus driver Rustom was very rude at times. I mistakenly made a coffee for myself in the bus, not knowing that it’s a paid service, but the way he behaved at this time was damn rude and unprofessional. Would be nice henceforth if you have it written that it’s a ‘paid service’ near the coffee counter in the bus and also train your staff to behave professionally. Nevertheless, rest everything was mesmerising! :)
It was a wonderful tour! Our guide and driver took care of us with a perfect balance of professionalism and warmth. The guide’s explanations were excellent, and they were very punctual with the schedule. Everything was incredibly well-organized; we received helpful WhatsApp messages and emails before the trip to remind us of every detail. Truly a 10-star experience!
A “must do” experience. The lakes were absolutely worth it despite the cold and the overall effort. We didn’t manage to go past the third lake because the weather turned very bad and it was unsafe to continue. The driver and the guide were both good, not as talkative or approachable as what I’m used to on other tours, but still perfectly fine. I also felt that the group didn’t really “connect” as much as in other tours I’ve done. Usually the guide helps break the ice a bit more and brings people together, but that didn’t really happen this time. Not a big issue, just something I noticed. There wasn’t much actual guiding anyway, since it wasn’t a historical or cultural site but mostly a hiking experience, so that makes sense. The monastery was okay, not a lot to do. Just explore the monastery area and some coffee/food/souvenir shops there. Tip: If you go in October–November, dress very warmly, bring spare clothes, and wear proper shoes. P.S. I needed some clarifications and sent an email beforehand. The lady who assisted me (Mrs. Annie) was extremely polite and helpful, and honestly one of the main reasons I decided to book the tour.
