Skopje, North Macedonia’s capital, has a rich history dating back to the Thracian settlements and the fortress of Scupi. Over the centuries, it was ruled by Romans, Byzantines, Bulgarians, Serbians, and Ottomans, the latter renaming it Uskub. After liberation in 1912, it joined Serbia, later Bulgaria briefly, then became part of socialist Yugoslavia. A major earthquake in 1963 left over 100,000 homeless, but the city recovered to become today’s vibrant capital.
Your day trip starts at 8:00 AM (hotel pick-up or meeting point) with a scenic 4-hour drive through the Osogovo Mountains. Arrive around 12:00 PM (11:00 AM local time) for a guided walking tour including the Museum of History, Memorial House of Mother Teresa, the main square with Alexander the Great statue, and the Stone Bridge.
The 2–2.5 hour tour ends in the Old Bazaar for optional food, souvenirs, or coffee. On the return, admire the Skopje 2014 project’s monumental buildings. This tour blends history, culture, and modern city highlights.
