Such a magical place. I had seen the pictures and knew i wanted to visit however didn't really know what to expect. I suppose I was surprised by its size (not as big as I had thought) and the fact it is surrounded by the huge sand dunes. The solid and dry floor was interesting too and easily explained when you know the history and reason for why the 700+ year old dead trees remain. To get to Deadvlei you do have to walk around 1km across sand. The hotter it is, the softer the sand. If you combine the heat, soft sand and distance, keep that in mind when you are planning your visit. One other thing to note, when you see some of the 'creative' photos of people on or touching the trees, these are not possible. You must not touch the trees so as to not damage them.

Once you've finished the Big Daddy Dune area, head all the way down to the bottom of the map to explore the stunning Deadvlei. This is another truly gorgeous landscape featuring trees that have passed away centuries ago. Trust me, it's a show worth experiencing.

I came valley when it was sunset, and strong wind has come-.So I took some good photos. The way come to valley not easy , you should repair shoes for walking in sand .That’s hard when we had to out valley on time cause the way out not easy, car easy stuck in sand :( Anyway , that’s so amazing place I ’ve ever come.

An incredible, life-changing, singular experience that we will never forget. If you’re planning an African adventure make sure this is on your list. This epic landscape boasts some of the world’s biggest dunes in the world’s oldest desert and they’re actually accessible to climb. Go as early in the day as you can for the best photo ops as the dunes are most stunningly defined by shadows cast by a low sun ... and before the heat really kicks in.

Top photo destination. Beautiful scenery! One hour drive from the NP gate in Sesriem on excelent sealed road. At a checkpoint deflate the tyres for a short drive in deep sand (doable with robust 4x4 SUV only, not in a small 4x4 car). 20 mins walk in sand to the valley. You have to return by 6 pm (sunset) at the gate, so it's risky to wait for sunset. Allow 4 hours, factor in the heat. It is better to go early in the morning.
