Begin your day in the Douro Valley with a private driver-guide who will pick you up from your accommodation for an off-the-beaten-path adventure in this historic and scenic region. Your first stop is in Lamego at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remédios, a stunning baroque church adorned with traditional Azulejos and perched above the city. Walk down the impressive staircase and enjoy panoramic views before taking a break at a local café to taste the region’s sparkling wine paired with traditional sausages. Explore the medieval Cathedral of Lamego and the Lamego Museum, housed in the Bishops’ Palace, where you can admire collections of tapestries, sculptures, and historic furniture that reflect the city’s rich heritage.
In the afternoon, continue your journey through the Douro Valley with a visit to the Cistercian Monastery of S. João de Tarouca, Portugal’s first monastery of the order founded in the fertile Varosa-Tavora Valley. Learn about its origins and the role of the first King of Portugal in its construction. Finish the tour with a visit to the fortified tower and bridge of Ucanha, a historic toll collection point over the Varosa River. After a full day of history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes, return to Porto, concluding a memorable exploration of the Douro Valley beyond the main wine regions.

Pedro was phenomenal! We were with him for 2 days and the variety of wineries (big and small, heavy ports to minimal) was spot on! And he took us to a really good locals lunch spot that was very good. Finally - he was very easy to spend two days with. Very nice person, knowledgeable and loves what he does.

Just back from the most fabulous day with Rui at Douro Valley Tours! 🌿🍷 From start to finish, everything was seamless and fun. Rui picked us up in a gorgeous, very comfortable Mercedes and immediately set the tone with his easygoing, cool energy and amazing knowledge of the Douro region. He showed us a big super impressive slick wine producer (Quinta da Pachera) and introducing us to a charming, smaller Quinta (Quinta do Beijo) it was great to see the difference between the two. Very unique! There’s a small surprise at the end of the Beijo tour, please go visit, it’s worth it! We opted for a beautiful lunch at Quinta de Pachera, which Rui organised for us and was a real highlight - amazing food and wine with views across the valley. Afterwards, Rui arranged a breathtaking boat trip along the Douro River, where we drifted past terraced vineyards in the afternoon sunshine. By the cozy, dozy drive back, we were happily full of wine, food, and unforgettable memories. Rui is not just a guide, he’s the kind of host who makes you feel like a local friend is showing you around. If you’re visiting Porto or the Douro Valley, do yourself a favour and book a day with him. You’ll come away with a full heart, a happy stomach, and a deep appreciation for this magical region.

My private wine tour with Rui/DWT - Douro Valley Wine Tours was absolutely fantastic! From the moment I was picked up at my hotel (Quinta da la Pencha I highly recommend and which Rui booked and suggested) to the final drop-off, everything was meticulously planned and executed. Rui customized visiting smaller, family-run wineries in the Douro Valley and enjoying tastings of their unique wines. Rui's knowledge of the region, the winemaking process, and the specific wines we tasted was exceptional. He was able to answer all my questions and provide insights that enhanced my appreciation for Portuguese wine. The tastings themselves were well-paced and informative, and I especially enjoyed the very personal tour at Quinta da Formigosa. Additionally, lunch was very delicious at a local eatery in the Valley. The boat tour was also a very unique view of the river and valley during the wine excursion. I highly recommend this tour company to anyone looking for a personalized and memorable wine experience in Portugal. It was worth every penny!

Rui planned a fantastic trip around the Duoro Valley for the day for us while traveling in Porto, Portugal. He built an itinerary around our requests and made transport easy with picking us up at our hotel accommodations. We spent the day visiting two wineries (one larger with a longer history and a smaller private tour at a newer winery - both were incredibly informative and fun), having lunch in PinhĂŁo, and taking a river boat ride. 10/10 Experience and would absolutely recommend!

My sister and I were looking for a more intimate Douro Valley wine tasting experience and DWT delivered! Daniela was the perfect guide for our day. We enjoyed two very different winery experiences, a gorgeous boat trip down the Douro and a local lunch. While you do join other small groups on the tours, it was a great way to experience the Douro Valley! Bonus points for Daniela being an extra photographer for us.
