Embark on a full day caving adventure ideal for beginners and those seeking an exciting underground experience. The session begins at Goatchurch Cavern, a beginner friendly cave with a dry maze of passages offering multiple route options for all abilities. Participants are fully equipped with a caving oversuit, helmet, light, caver’s belt, and Wellington boots if required. The day starts gently with walking size passages where you may see cave formations and even sleeping bats. As confidence grows, the instructor introduces more challenging routes including crawls, slides, and scrambles. Adventurous participants can tackle the ‘Superman Squeeze’ while less experienced cavers take a more spacious route, ensuring everyone enjoys the experience at their own pace. The Goatchurch segment lasts approximately two hours before a break for lunch.
After lunch, the group travels to Priddy to explore Swildon’s Hole, the longest cave system in the Mendip Hills with over nine kilometres of passages. Entering through the manhole entrance into rushing water, you will encounter spectacular waterfalls, cascades, and large caverns filled with impressive stalactite formations. This section of the day involves negotiating waterchutes, providing a thrilling and immersive underground adventure. The session is suitable for youth groups from eight years old, with family sessions available for younger children. Group sizes are typically limited to nine participants per instructor, though additional instructors can accommodate larger groups. With professional guidance, safety equipment, and a variety of passages to match all skill levels, this full day caving experience offers a safe, fun, and memorable way to explore the hidden world beneath the Mendip Hills.
