AIARE 1 Avalanche Safety Course: Lift-Served at Winter Park Resort

This three day AIARE Level 1 Avalanche Course in Winter Park is designed for skiers and splitboarders who want a strong foundation in avalanche safety and decision making. The program blends online learning, an in person classroom day, and two full days of on snow field training with the added benefit of lift access at Winter Park Resort. Led by AIARE certified instructors with extensive local knowledge, the course focuses on understanding Colorado’s complex snowpack, recognizing avalanche hazards, and developing safe travel habits in winter terrain.

Participants learn how to use essential rescue equipment, read avalanche forecasts, plan trips, manage terrain, and respond effectively during emergencies. Field days emphasize realistic scenarios, companion rescue practice, and student led tours to reinforce learning through experience. Complimentary use of Ortovox avalanche gear is included, along with an official AIARE certificate upon completion. This course is ideal for beginners with no prior avalanche education as well as those looking to formalize their backcountry skills in a structured and supportive environment.
