PADI Rescue Diver Course Builds Confidence in Handling Underwater Emergencies

The PADI Rescue Diver course is designed to develop a diver’s ability to prevent and manage problems both underwater and at the surface. Combining flexible online study with structured in-water training, the program teaches participants to think and act like a rescue diver under the supervision of a certified instructor.

The knowledge development portion can be completed at the participant’s own pace through eLearning, making it accessible for those with busy schedules. Practical sessions focus on real-world scenarios, including assisting tired divers, responding to cramps, and managing simulated emergency situations through guided role-playing exercises.

A strong emphasis is placed on performance-based learning, allowing divers to demonstrate competence in open-water environments. Prerequisites include an Adventure Diver certification or higher, completion of an underwater navigation dive, and valid Emergency First Response (EFR) Primary and Secondary Care training within the past 24 months. The course typically requires around four half-days, with approximately eight hours of eLearning, and is open to participants aged 12 and above.

Set against scenic dive locations such as Ponta da Piedade, the training also offers opportunities to observe marine life and capture underwater photography. All essential equipment and certification are included, while items such as dive computers, flashlights, and surface marker buoys must be provided separately. Participants are encouraged to bring swimwear and towels, and flexible arrival times allow for a relaxed start before training sessions.
