An Advanced Open Water Diver course offered in Lagos is providing certified divers aged 12 and above with an opportunity to build confidence and expand their underwater capabilities. The program is structured around five dives, combining core training in navigation and deep diving with three additional specialty dives selected by participants.
Training takes place in some of the most scenic underwater locations near Ponta da Piedade, where divers encounter vibrant marine ecosystems. The course emphasizes practical learning, with each dive designed to strengthen key competencies while ensuring safety. Participants complete a deep dive, a navigation dive, and three specialty dives, reaching depths of up to 30 meters depending on age restrictions. Many of the specialty dives may also count toward formal PADI® specialty certifications, adding value to the training experience.
All essential equipment is provided, including wetsuit, regulator, BCD, mask, fins, boots, manuals, and certification upon completion. Additional safety tools such as dive computers, flashlights, and surface marker buoys are not included. The program typically spans two half-days and requires participants to hold at least an Open Water Diver certification, with refresher training recommended for those who have not recently dived. Designed as both an educational and adventurous experience, the course blends structured skill-building with the natural beauty of Lagos’s underwater landscape.

I had an absolutely fantastic weekend doing my orientation dive (and fun dives) with Ocean Divers at Killary Fjord! From the moment I arrived every member of staff and all the other divers were incredibly welcoming, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was supportive and relaxed, making it easy to feel comfortable even if you’re just starting out like me (10 dives previously). There were a lot of divers, but each in small groups with their own dive master or dive instructor and grouped together in the OW/AOW courses or fun dives. While I had already done my OW elsewhere, I’ll definitely be doing the advanced course and further dives with these guys as the level of dedication and commitment that goes into making their students be successful divers is visible. Bring a bit of patience for the initial response period if you reach out during a very busy time - it‘s hard to respond when you’re always in the water 😄 but I honestly can’t recommend them enough if you’re looking to become a good diver and explore Irelands underwater world with a genuinely lovely group of people.
I’m doing the drysuit diver course with Oceandivers at the moment. I was having trouble getting my buoyancy right, so had six pool sessions to get it right at no extra charge!! What a crew Oceandivers have. There was no pressure, just take your time and get it right. Dan is always on hand to help you out and the rest of the lads are so helpful. I had my first sea dive for the buoyancy certification today off Dalkey island. It was fantastic!! The extra lessons really paid off. I cannot recommend the Oceandivers crew highly enough. It is and has been a pleasure working with Oceandivers to get my drysuit certification. Can’t wait to get back in the water with the crew!!
I got my OW course with Oceandivers in the previous two months and they are really professional and helpful. Especially, I would like to thank my instructor Alan, he is really amazing experience diver and nice advisor. Great enjoy my training with him and also thank other instructors, divemasters and staffs from Oceandivers.
