Definitely a tourist trap, but better than Nishiki market in Kyoto. Street food is pretty good. Expect a crowd even on weekdays. I'd come back for some specific food stalls.

If you’re a big fan of seafood, this is the place for you for fresh sushi and assorted seafood dishes. Unfortunately the Tsukiji Market is closed on Wednesdays. There are other food choices such as waygu beef, strawberry mochis and ramen. A nice place to visit and enjoy seafood from the many local seafood places. It’s about a 10 minute from Oedo Tsukijishijo station. We took the train from Shinjuku station. Worth a train trip.

An absolute must stop if you are visiting Tokyo! There are so many great stalls to choose from, it’s hard to pick the best one. My advice is get there at 7:30-8 AM to beat the crowds. We went on our first full day because we were up from jet lag anyway and it wasn’t overly crowded, so there were almost no waits in line. Favorites include: Wagyu Skewer, Dango, Tuna Belly trio, and Tamago

Despite this having become a tourist magnet in recent years this is still an amzing place to visit. It is worth remembering that this is primarily a working fish market and a source of real employment and food for the greater Tokyo area (some tourists have caused offence in the past - particularly at the early morning tuna auction). The best time to visit is indeed early morning when the market is at its busiest and the surrounding restaurants are full of clients eating the freshest fish and seafood you will ever encounter.

So many things to eat and shop here. I loved the variety of food! Tried lots of different dishes and everything was delicious. Even lined up for the sweet egg, and it was totally worth the wait of everything. Such a fun foodie spot to explore.
