This two-day course is designed for sailors who want to gain advanced skills in handling a sloop-rigged, auxiliary-powered keelboat of 30 to 45 feet. Over the course of two full days, participants will learn how to skipper the vessel safely on inland or coastal waters in moderate to heavy winds, up to 30 knots, and varying sea conditions. The program covers essential aspects of cruising, including provisioning, galley operations, and routine maintenance, as well as advanced sail trim, auxiliary engine operation, and multiple-anchor mooring techniques.
In addition to practical seamanship skills, participants will develop competence in coastal navigation, including basic chart plotting and GPS operation, and learn to operate a dinghy or tender effectively. The course emphasizes both technical knowledge and real-world application to ensure participants are fully prepared to manage a larger cruising keelboat confidently. Study materials are included, and a minimum of two students is required to hold the class. This program is ideal for sailors who have completed ASA 101 and ASA 103 and are ready to expand their cruising capabilities.
