The weekly Crew Sails program in St. Augustine offers sailors the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while sailing under the guidance of a USCG Captain or ASA Sailing Instructor. Available every Sunday in two sessions, participants rotate through scheduled lessons to practice and improve their sailing skills. Each participant receives a membership number allowing them to sign up for two sails per month while the membership is active. For those seeking more time on the water, the CREW Plus membership provides additional opportunities to join paid charters, applying sailing skills in a real-world setting. Participants in this program must follow the captain’s instructions at all times for safety and may be required to join St.

Sailors should come prepared for the conditions with proper gear, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, and be ready for sudden changes in Florida weather by dressing in layers or bringing foul-weather gear. A Type V personal flotation device is recommended, especially for offshore racing where a tether may be necessary. Familiarity with essential knots such as the bowline, clove hitch, cleat hitch, and figure eight, as well as sailing terminology, navigation rules, and aids to navigation, is crucial for effective communication and safety aboard.
