Hippo Encounters

The Hippo Encounter offers a rare chance to go behind the scenes at the new Kiboko River Station and meet the Nile hippos up close. During this guided experience, animal care specialists introduce guests to these impressive animals while explaining their daily routines, training, diets, and natural behaviors. Visitors can also learn about ongoing conservation efforts that help protect hippos in the wild. Under the supervision of trained staff, guests have the unique opportunity to feed the hippos while gaining a deeper understanding of their care and the important role they play in their ecosystem.

This encounter lasts twenty minutes and takes place once daily at twelve PM, with reservations strongly recommended due to limited availability. Zoo admission is not included, and guests must purchase an entry ticket to participate. The minimum age for this experience is six years old, and children between six and twelve must be accompanied by a paying adult. Designed as an educational and memorable wildlife interaction, this behind the scenes session provides an engaging and informative look into the lives of one of the world’s largest and most fascinating mammals.
