Jacob’s Choice was fantastic… but our tour guide ruined the rest. Our visit to the Amish Experience was definitely a mixed bag. The film Jacob’s Choice was the highlight—beautifully produced, captivating, and honestly worth the trip on its own. Unfortunately, everything after that went downhill fast. Our tour guide was extremely condescending from the moment the tour started. Instead of offering helpful insight or creating a welcoming atmosphere, she delivered information with a tone that made us feel like we were being lectured—not guided. Even worse, several things she said were just plain inaccurate. At one point, she claimed that the Romans persecuted the Amish and forced them to come to America. That is not only false—it’s not even close to Amish history. It’s hard to stay engaged when the person leading the tour can’t distinguish fact from fiction. Her attitude and unwillingness to be friendly or helpful overshadowed what could have been an interesting experience. When we asked clarifying questions, her responses felt dismissive, like we were inconveniencing her just by wanting to understand. Overall: Jacob’s Choice = impressive. Our tour = frustrating and misleading. We wouldn’t return unless the guiding staff received better training—not just in accurate Amish history, but in basic friendliness.
Absolutely loved this experience and I really want to go back just to get more delicious food. They served the most fantastic peanut butter. I ate mine with ice cream and I don't even like peanut butter! Honestly, there's nothing better than sitting down for a home cooked meal.
This is a great experience with very knowledgeable docents. Laid back, open to answer all questions. Non judgemental.
