The Magnificent 7, or Mag-7, trail system in Moab is a must-ride experience for avid mountain bikers, connecting the upper and lower portions of Gemini Bridges Road. The system offers a variety of trails that can be linked in several ways, but the most popular is a 26-mile point-to-point route when shuttled. Trails within the Mag-7 network include Gemini Bridges, Bull Run, Arth's Corner, Great Escape, Little Canyon, Gold Bar, Golden Spike, and The Poison Spider Trail, with the option to finish on the challenging Moab Portal Trail. The classic route—Getaway, Bull Run, Great Escape, Little Canyon, Gold Bar, Gold Bar Rim, and Portal—offers a mix of technical features, flow sections, and breathtaking scenery. The Portal Trail, in particular, is highly advanced and extremely exposed, recommended only for expert riders, as it includes some of the most technical and dangerous sections in Moab.
For logistics, riders should park at the bottom of the Portal Trail roadside pickup location, which is not listed on Trailforks, Google, or Apple Maps. The lot is located 3.5 miles from HWY 191 on the river side of the road, and parking in the Jaycee Campground will cause you to miss the shuttle. Riders are advised to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to shuttle departure. The desert environment can be extremely hot and dry, so riders should bring a minimum of 100 oz. of water, ample food and snacks, and a well-maintained bike with spare parts and repair tools. Additional recommended items include a headlamp, extra warm layers, a windbreaker or waterproof jacket, sunglasses, sunscreen, a fire starter, a first aid kit, and a cell phone. All participants must adhere to Leave No Trace principles. This shuttle requires a minimum number of participants to operate, and e-bikes are not allowed. Riders should be prepared for mechanical challenges and the demanding nature of advanced terrain throughout the Mag-7 trails.
