Mount Taygetos, the highest peak in the Peloponnese at 2407 meters, is a stunning natural wonder. As you walk the trails of Taygetos, you are immersed in 200 million years of geological history. Our hike to the summit of Prophet Elias begins at the Sparta Mountaineering Club's refuge at 1550 meters. As we ascend, the sweet scent of wildflowers and endemic herbal teas fills the air. Along the way, we pause to take in the spectacular vistas that the mountain generously offers. Continuing uphill, we reach the Portes or Gates, a ridge split that marks our entry into the final stretch of the hike. Soon, we will walk the famous Immortal Ridge. With just a few more steps, we reach the summit plateau, conquering the highest point of the mountain at 2407 meters. From the top, panoramic views stretch across the horizon, leaving us in awe. After enjoying a refreshing picnic to recharge, we begin our descent.
