Sheldon Air Service Flightseeing Tour Reveals Alaska Range, Glaciers, and Wildlife

Sheldon Air Service pilots guide passengers through Alaska’s vast and dramatic landscapes, offering expert commentary as the scenery transitions from rolling foothills into the towering peaks of the Alaska Range. Each passenger is provided with a headset, enabling direct communication with the pilot and enhancing the overall flightseeing experience.

As the aircraft ascends along the Tokositna Glacier, Denali gradually comes into full view, revealing its immense scale against the surrounding peaks. Nearby, Little Switzerland appears along the route, a well-known destination for climbers and adventurers drawn to its rugged terrain and scenic alpine views.

The flight continues over expansive glacier systems, passing within approximately six miles of Denali’s summit. The journey then navigates through 747 Pass toward the Ruth Glacier, where passengers land at the Ruth West strip. From here, sweeping views of the Don Sheldon Amphitheater unfold, surrounded by iconic peaks including Mooses Tooth, Bear Tooth, and Broken Tooth.

On the return route, guests may view the historic Mountain House built in 1966 by Don Sheldon before flying through the deep and dramatic Ruth Gorge, known for its mile-high cliffs and vivid blue meltwater pools. A glacier landing adds extra time to explore the icy terrain, making it a highlight of the journey, while the final leg over the Tokositna River region often offers wildlife sightings such as moose and bears, concluding a remarkable Alaskan flightseeing adventure.
