The adventure begins in Talkeetna, where a short but spectacular flight carries you across Alaska’s vast river and forest landscapes, similar to the Mountain House and Base Camp air tours. As the journey unfolds, keep watch for wildlife such as black bears and moose moving through the wilderness below. You may also spot secluded lakeside lodges, many accessible only by floatplane, adding to the sense of Alaska’s untouched and rugged charm. This initial flight offers a stunning introduction to the dramatic scenery that defines the Alaska Range.
Continuing toward the Alaska Range, the flight reveals sweeping aerial views of the state’s immense interior. The route passes above the Peters, Muldrow, and Traleika Glaciers, each showcasing its own striking patterns of ice and terrain. Soar past the iconic North Face and the immense Wickersham Wall—a breathtaking 14,000-foot continuous vertical rise and one of the most dramatic faces in the climbing world. For an even more immersive experience, a landing on the Ruth Glacier can be added, giving you the rare opportunity to stand on ancient ice and take in the overwhelming beauty of the surrounding mountains.

An unforgettable experience! I went on a helicopter ride to the glaciers last year, and it was absolutely fantastic! I got to sit up front, which made the views even more breathtaking. The scenery was stunning the entire way, and our pilot, Shad, made the trip even better by explaining what we were seeing as we flew. He was real nice and thoughtful—when we landed on the glacier, he even made a little path in the snow for me so I wouldn’t get my shoes all snowy (as you can see in the picture!). It was such a special touch to an already amazing experience. Highly recommend!

Our experience with Alaska Helicopter Tours was truly one of the highlights of our entire trip. The views were absolutely breathtaking—so beautiful they almost didn’t feel real. From start to finish, the entire tour felt magical. Our guide was incredibly informative about Alaska, the glaciers, and the surrounding wildlife, all while being friendly and easy to talk to. We even spotted mountain goats along the way, which made the experience even more unforgettable. We will definitely be recommending Alaska Helicopter Tours to others, and we can’t wait to book another tour the next time we’re back in AK!

First time on a helicopter tour ever! Glad it was in Alaska with Alaska Helicopter Tours! The crew at the front desk were kind, welcoming, and very helpful during the check in process and orientation video pre-flight. Our pilot Sam was an excellent guide for the tour, really kind, and professional. Very knowledgeable about Alaska and areas we had covered overhead. I would definitely do it again and highly recommend the tour. A must see, to experience the side of Alaska you can’t find in the inner cities!

We took the Grand Knik 2-hour, 3-stop tour with Alaska Helicopter Tours. Our pilot, Sam Rausch, gave a warm and engaging commentary throughout the trip, pointing out what to look forward to and highlighting key sights at each stop. During the flight, we spotted wildlife on the mountains, and Sam enthusiastically pointed them out to us, making the experience even more enjoyable. We were lucky enough to see huge chunks of ice breaking off from the glacier and plunging into the river below. The landing on top of the glacier was absolutely unforgettable—Alaska’s unique landscape makes this place incredibly captivating and memorable. If you’re spending more than three days in Anchorage, I highly recommend setting aside time for this experience. Keep in mind that tours are highly weather-dependent, so it’s a good idea to leave a few flexible days as backup. We also used the round-trip shuttle service to and from Anchorage. Our driver, Trudy Lorenzen, was incredibly kind and thoughtful—she pointed out beautiful scenic spots along the way and shared interesting facts about the mountains we passed. Her calm and confident driving made us feel completely at ease.

My husband and I went on the 2 hour grand tour for our honeymoon and it was just incredible. The pictures don’t do it justice. The nature here is breathtaking and the landscape is beautiful. The workers were so helpful and the directions were very clear. We felt very safe and taken care of. Very professional. Our pilot was Hayden and he was fantastic! He showed us some incredible places and his skills of flying are amazing. We were even able to see a moose and a bear from up high! Our landings were smooth and the flight was great. He took lots of pictures for us and was so friendly and kind. He is an excellent pilot! We highly recommend him as a pilot and this tour as an experience! If you come to Alaska you have to take this tour!
