Sheldon Air Service Flightseeing Tour Showcases Alaska Range and Ruth Glacier

Sheldon Air Service pilots guide passengers through some of Alaska’s most dramatic mountain landscapes, offering expert narration as the terrain shifts from foothills into the heart of the Alaska Range. Each guest is provided with a headset, allowing real-time communication with the pilot and a more immersive understanding of the surroundings throughout the flight.

As the aircraft climbs along the Tokositna Glacier, the immense scale of Denali comes into view, while the striking formation known as Little Switzerland appears nearby, a favored destination for climbers and alpine travelers. The route continues over vast glacier systems, bringing passengers within close range of Denali’s towering summit and revealing the powerful natural forces that shaped the region over millennia.

The journey then passes through 747 Pass toward the Ruth Glacier, where a landing at the Ruth West strip offers sweeping views of the Don Sheldon Amphitheater. From this vantage point, iconic peaks such as Mooses Tooth, Bear Tooth, and Broken Tooth dominate the skyline, creating one of the most visually striking alpine settings in Alaska.

On the return route, passengers may also see the historic Mountain House built by Don Sheldon in 1966, followed by a flight through the dramatic Ruth Gorge, known for its mile-deep walls and brilliant blue glacial pools.
