This intermediate ice and mixed climbing course is designed for climbers who have already begun their ice journey but now want to push past a plateau or refine their technique for more challenging terrain. You’ll learn how to conserve energy on long, steep sections of ice, identify and use rests effectively, and manage your tools and gear with greater efficiency. Instruction also covers movement on mixed routes where ice and rock blend together, teaching you how to transition safely, assess ice quality, and adapt your climbing style to changing surfaces.

Training takes place at reliable ice venues such as Lake City Ice Park, Clear Creek Canyon, and North Cheyenne Canyon—each offering a range of routes suitable for skill development and technique work. As the winter season shapes new ice formations in the mountains and down into the valleys, these locations provide ideal conditions for learning how to move confidently on ice and mixed terrain. Previous ice climbing experience is recommended, and those new to the sport should begin with an Intro to Ice Climbing course before advancing. By the end, participants will feel better equipped to take on steeper, more complex climbs with improved technique, efficiency, and awareness.
