This Intro to Ice Climbing course is designed for complete beginners, making it the perfect starting point if you’ve never climbed ice—or even rock—before. You’ll learn how to give a solid belay, place and understand ice screw protection, use ice tools and crampons correctly, and apply basic climbing techniques that help you move efficiently and stay balanced. The course also covers descending from climbs, outdoor etiquette, and the essential skills needed to climb ice safely without leading. While previous climbing experience can speed up your progress, it’s not required, and instructors are happy to teach the outdoor basics you need along the way.
Training takes place at some of the best beginner-friendly ice venues, including Lake City Ice Park, Clear Creek Canyon, and North Cheyenne Canyon—locations known for reliable ice, moderate routes, and short approaches. As winter freezes drips, waterfalls, and mountain seep lines, a whole new climbing world opens up, and with proper guidance, you can step into it confidently. Whether you’re brand-new to climbing or transitioning from indoor or rock experience, this course gives you the foundation to start ice climbing on your own.
