This four to five hour cycling adventure begins in Cromwell’s Heritage Precinct and takes riders through Bannockburn’s vineyards into the dramatic Cromwell Gorge. The route features cantilevered boardwalks, suspension bridges, and cliffside trails, offering a mix of engineering marvels and stunning natural scenery. Cyclists trace the turquoise waters of Lake Dunstan, pass the historic Clyde Dam, and experience views of vineyards and historic sites along the way. The trail is a grade two to three gravel surface suitable for reasonably fit riders, with premium e bikes or manual 29er bikes provided along with helmets, panniers, and gel seats for comfort. Riders can stop for photos, visit local cellar doors, or enjoy food and beverages at select locations along the trail.
Participants should arrive at the Central Cycle Trail depot in Clyde thirty minutes before departure for check in, bike fitting, and a full briefing. Food, water, sunscreen, and optional shuttle transfers from Queenstown or Wanaka are not included. Riders should bring sunscreen, water, mobile phone, snacks, activewear, windproof jacket, and optionally padded bike shorts and gloves.
