AIARE two Course Builds Advanced Avalanche Awareness for Backcountry Travel

The recreational AIARE 2 course is an intensive four-day program created for backcountry travelers who want to strengthen their avalanche awareness and decision-making in more demanding mountain environments. Designed for those who have completed foundational avalanche training, the course focuses on developing leadership skills, managing small-group travel, and planning safe routes in areas where current online forecasts or resources may be limited.

Building on the hazard management principles introduced in AIARE Level 1, participants learn to evaluate the complex relationship between terrain, weather, and snowpack. Through guided instruction and practical exercises, students develop advanced strategies for assessing avalanche conditions, identifying changing hazards, and making well-informed travel decisions in challenging winter terrain.

The expanded four-day curriculum provides greater depth than many standard three-day Level 2 programs.
