Lord Howe Island offers a rare opportunity to see the Galapagos Whaler Shark in its natural environment, making it a unique destination for shark enthusiasts and divers alike. This reef shark is curious and striking, and swimming alongside it is a thrilling experience that combines adventure with education. Dive Lord Howe ensures that every interaction is safe and respectful. Before entering the water, participants receive a full briefing on shark behavior and interaction etiquette. The trained crew carefully sets up safety lines at a known congregation site for these sharks, providing both guidance and protection. This structured approach allows you to get close to these magnificent creatures while maintaining safety for both divers and sharks.

Beyond the adventure, this experience contributes to ongoing marine research. Dive Lord Howe works closely with shark biologists Jonathan Mitchell and Victoria Camilieri-Asch from the Sydney Institute of Marine Science to gather valuable data on the Galapagos Whaler Shark population. Guests are encouraged to capture images of their encounters and share them to support scientific studies. The trips operate on Monday and Thursday afternoons from three to five pm, with schedules adjusted according to weather conditions to ensure safe and optimal shark interactions. This excursion is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to combine excitement, learning, and conservation awareness on Lord Howe Island.
