This journey begins in the high plateau of Paul da Serra where the lush Laurissilva Forest surrounds the trail with its unique natural heritage. The first section follows a narrow path hidden among thick vegetation before joining the wider Levada do Alecrim. As the route continues, the scenery opens to flowing water channels, small lagoons and a large reservoir where trout move through crystal clear pools. The levada leads toward the upper valley and reveals sweeping views across Rabacal and Ribeira da Janela while the landscape becomes richer in native species and the sound of running water accompanies the walk.
Reaching the source of the Levada do Alecrim at Ribeira do Lajeado brings a peaceful moment beside the small lagoon called Dona Beja fed by a gentle waterfall that later becomes the Lagoa do Vento cascade below. After a short rest, the path returns briefly before descending a different trail toward Lagoa do Vento. This section is more demanding with uneven ground that can become slippery, yet the effort is rewarded with the impressive sight of a tall waterfall plunging into a calm basin. Surrounded by high altitude heaths and species such as heather, blueberry and Madeiran orchid, the atmosphere is marked by stillness and the natural sounds of the forest.
