Booked the essential tour , a smooth booking process and confirmation email. Arrived to see Lisa with her yellow umbrella and the tour started on time. A well paced walk with plenty of information provided at many stops, with time at some to explore. Very knowledgeable guide who also provided details of places to eat and drink. I would recommend Free Walking Tours and when we return will so The Old Town tour.

I did the Old Town free tour, and booked a spot online the night before. There was probably close to 20 people on the tour The tour was very good and informative. I felt I learnt a lot about Madeira and Portugal's history. It was especially interesting to hear about the floods the island has faced, and how football came to Madeira

A must do tour of essential history, fun facts and recommendations done by professional local guide Lisa always amazing. She kept us interested, entertained, small talked with those interested, made us walk up the hill in a doable amount and shared her passion for her city. Recommended to everyone who is not afraid to walk and explore. Thank you Lisa 😊 🙏 💓

We have used several versions of " free walking tours" in New York, Malta and in the UK. We always find that 2-3 hours spent in the company of a local guide will give you much more information on a place than trying to read a guide book whilst wandering around. Happy to say this was the case a few days ago when we took a group tour in the company of Lisa. Certainly worth considering.

Madeira is a popular island preceded by over six hundred years of Portuguese history. For tourists visiting with a limited time, the best way to discover that rich history can be with a free walking tour. Many destination cities offer something similar, so when I found Funchal Free Walking Tours, I booked online and the website was easy to navigate. On the day of my walking tour, it was easy to find the meeting spot. During the experience, it was very informative and easy to follow. In a matter of 2-3 hours, I heard about the fascinating stories behind monuments, statues and buildings with Madeiran heritage. Although it is free, the tour guide relies on the gratitude of their attendees and tips are encouraged, whatever you feel is merited. I thought they did really well and contributed a good amount for their effort. I highly recommend them as an economical option to explore the city.
