Monte Hill Tour Showcases Funchal’s Panoramic Views and Historic Charm

A scenic guided tour in Madeira offers visitors a memorable journey from Funchal up into the lush hillside village of Monte. The drive winds through picturesque mountain roads, gradually revealing sweeping panoramic views over the city and coastline. Led by a knowledgeable local guide, the experience combines natural beauty with cultural storytelling, introducing guests to one of Madeira’s most iconic destinations.

Upon arrival in Monte, visitors are welcomed into a peaceful atmosphere defined by manicured gardens, traditional architecture, and a distinct sense of old-world charm. The village reflects the historical and cultural heritage of Madeira, offering a tranquil contrast to the bustling streets below. Guests are given time to explore and appreciate the serene surroundings that make Monte a cherished landmark.

A key highlight of the tour is a visit to the Church of Our Lady of Monte, a 19th-century landmark that holds deep cultural and religious significance. The guide shares insights into the church’s history and its role in the local community, while visitors enjoy opportunities to capture stunning photographs of both the structure and the surrounding landscape.

To complete the experience, guests may optionally take part in the famous Monte toboggan ride, a traditional wicker sled descent down the steep streets of the hill. This thrilling activity, arranged separately, offers a unique and exhilarating way to descend back toward Funchal, with drivers waiting at the bottom to conclude the journey.

We had an incredible tour of the Monteverde Cloud forest, with our guide Eduardo. He has such deep knowledge of the area. We were fortunate to see over 4 quetzals and so much more wildlife. A wonderful and awe-inspiring experience!

The Extremo Ziplining Tour was amazing! The staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and made us feel safe the entire time. The views were breathtaking. The Superman line and the Tarzan swing were thrilling! Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fun, safe, and adrenaline-filled adventure in Costa Rica. Thank you to the whole team for such a memorable experience!

This was perhaps our favorite hike in Costa Rica. The road in is pretty rough but well worth the trouble. The hike starts at the top and winds down through the valleys and past several waterfalls. We hiked in boots and changed into water shoes to walk in the pools below the falls. We lost count of the hanging bridges but each one offered an amazing view as we crossed over the valley. We opted for the bicycle zip-lining, which was exhilarating, with amazing views from incredible heights. At the end of zip-lining we mounted horses for the short trail-ride to the starting point for lunch. The park is really well-maintained and offers views that were as pretty as anything you can see on earth.
