This tour invites you to explore and photograph the architectural, sculptural, political, and social remnants of Slovenia’s Socialist era, a period when the country was part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Walking through the city, you’ll encounter the relatively uniform and prescribed social realist architecture, which stands in striking contrast to the medieval buildings and Baroque structures from the 19th century. These juxtaposed styles provide fascinating photographic opportunities, allowing you to capture the historical layers of Ljubljana while experimenting with perspective, composition, and light. The monochromatic nature of much of the Socialist-era architecture makes it a perfect subject for black-and-white photography, offering a unique challenge and creative potential for photographers of all levels.

Guided by a professional photography expert, you’ll receive hands-on instruction to enhance your skills and make the most of every shot. You’ll learn to master manual camera settings such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, while exploring creative composition techniques using lines, perspective, and color. The guide will also demonstrate how to control and harness light effectively and provide tips for post-processing, ensuring that your time on this tour results in a collection of striking, memorable images. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced photographer, this immersive experience will deepen your understanding of Ljubljana’s urban history and expand your photographic capabilities.

Our guide Domen was friendly, knowledgeable, and funny. As English speakers, we had no trouble understanding at all. We visited in the winter, and he was very thoughtful about making sure everyone stayed comfortable throughout the tour. It was a great mix of history, folklore, and local insight. Tips are encouraged/expected since the tours are free, and it was absolutely well worth it. Highly recommend!

Our tour guide - Tina, made the tour highly engaging! I believe this is a must visit when you are in Ljubljana as it gives you a glimpse into the city’s rich culture and history! What I found helpful was that even after the tour, Tina continued to provide us with recommendations of what you can do in the area!

We did the classic tour with Domen. He took us on an absolutely stunning tour through the center of Ljubljana, telling us just the right amount of history with a humorous touch keeping us engaged and laughing. We enjoyed it so much, definitely recommend this tour to anyone who is in the city to learn more about it including tips from our guide where to eat and what to do. I am so happy and will remember it for a long time!

We spent a very pleasant and informative two hours. Although the town is small, it hides many treasures and has a rich history. Our tour guide, Vojka, with her perfect English, introduced us to the city’s past. We owe the city’s appearance to the Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik, its cultural influence to the Slovenian poet France Prešeren, and this wonderful two-hour experience to Vojka. By the way, she also offers discount coupons, and we even got free tastings during the walk. We are very grateful. Thank you very much!

This tour was incredible! I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Ljubljana. Our guide Helena was amazing! The tour lasted about 2 hours and 20 minutes and was jam packed with info about the city and Slovenia—history, government, art, architecture, culture, food, interesting/amusing factoids, and even tips on local spots to check out. We also got free samples of a local liquor from a shop along the way. Great way to spend the afternoon, and I’d recommend doing this tour at the start of your stay in Ljubljana so that you have tips on what to do/where to go during the rest of your time in the city.
