Enjoy a wonderful walking tour through the historic center of Madrid and uncover the charm of its centuries old shops, each one a living piece of the city’s heritage. Your journey begins at the iconic San Gines chocolate shop, a beloved institution since the nineteenth century. Here, you will indulge in Madrid’s most famous churros with thick, rich chocolate, an experience that perfectly captures local tradition. As you stroll through the old streets, you will discover antique shops and artisan boutiques that have stood the test of time, preserving the essence of Madrid’s past. Among them is the Farmacia de la Reina, an elegant pharmacy where you can explore natural products once prescribed to Spanish royalty, offering a fascinating glimpse into the city’s noble history.

The tour continues through some of Madrid’s most emblematic restaurants and establishments, each with its own story to tell. Visit Restaurante Botin, recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest restaurant in the world, where generations of locals and travelers have enjoyed traditional Castilian cuisine. Nearby, discover the historic restaurant Lhardy, founded during the reign of Queen Maria Cristina, known for introducing French culinary style to Madrid. To conclude this unique cultural and gastronomic experience, visit the distinguished Medrano hat shop, where artisans craft exclusive tailor made pieces by hand. Really great prices and extremely friendly staff. Shoes are VERY comfortable (obviously excluding some models and depends how your specific foot is). I varied between two sizes 40-41 depending on the style

Wide variety to choose from and you could even customise or make your own. They even sell the raw materials to you. Only comment is that the store is small, there were only 3-4 staff (they weren’t very friendly) and you gotta tell them which shoe you want to try and which size, then they’ll go in the back to find it and bring it back to you. So it takes a bit of time. Sometimes there’s a long queue. But I love my shoes and the price!

Authentic setting for iconic Spanish espadrilles in many styles, sizes, and colors! The wooden counter could probably tell stories of all the young ladies excitedly picking up shoes for date nights and mujeres mayores picking up the soft shoes for their tired feet. The shoes are beautifully crafted, and the shop in well staffed with great service. They observe the traditional siesta, so avoid visiting them mid to late afternoon. The shop is close to Plaza Mayor (not far from Plaza de Sol Metro stop) on the side of the Cafe de la Plaza.

Such a cool and historical shopping experience! The store itself is beautiful, and it’s fun to see the many variations of shoes they make. I arrived around 10am on a Saturday and there were a few other people there already. I would advise coming early. I would also advise checking out the website to pick out different styles or make note of styles you want to try while waiting to be helped. The shoes themselves fit perfectly and are so beautiful.

There is always a queue outside. If u don't understand Spanish, please note that you would need to wait until a staff in the counter calls you to come inside before u can enter the shop. Otherwise, no one will serve you. 2nd, please pick the items you are interested in. If you do not speak Spanish, taking a picture would be a good idea. Then, u can try the shoes and decide what you need. Their shoes are famous of handmade in traditional ways and perhaps because of the rumors of a visit by Yves Saint Lauren. In any case, the price is very fair. I have bought a pair of Paris for 35.5 euros. Very fair price. But beware that the espadrilles are made for endurance with a jute rope sole and a canvas or cotton fabric upper. They are not as soft and flexible as the materials nowadays. My espadrilles expanded after soaking in the rain. 😅 I waited for 70 minutes starting from the area at the end of the last window on the right. To me, the waiting was more of a tribute to the legacy.
