Our spice farm + village tour with Bilal was a great addition to our Zanzibar holiday. Bilal’s a great communicator and super knowledgeable (both about his village’s way of life and the spices). He was extremely welcoming and is clearly well respected in his community. He’s done a great job building his company from the ground up! Bonus points for providing us with umbrellas when the rain came back. Thanks, Bilal!

The village tour was a unique experience. You can be prepared mentaly for it from what you already know from documentaries, stories, news, etc. but the raw reality will hit you once you walk around houses and/or enter inside them. Returing to Bilal, he is from the village, he lives there, he overcame his background, he seems a guy that truly cares about his village. I had a feeling that he wanted to immerse you in the village lifestyle, show you everything around, and, most importantly, share things with the community. Important to mention: if you can bring something for children, it is very appreciated - it can be color books, pencils, backpacks, etc. whatever you may think that can help them. This is not a turistic tour per se, is more a cultural ride showing you the real Zanzibar, behind the resorts and "main-road" activities. Bilal congrats for your good english learned on your own, for your determination and I hope that you will reach your dreams!

Bilal is a kind, ambitious, and hardworking young man who clearly cares deeply about the community he lives in. He taught himself English and now supports himself through this small guiding business he built on his own. My husband and I went on a tour with him that included a visit to a spice farm and his home village, Kisongoni. There was no car transfer included (we didn’t need one) — we used our own car and also gave him a ride. We paid $40 per person for the experience. Bilal guided us through the village and explained how people live there and how they build their homes. He even took us into several local houses so we could see firsthand how families live. He bought small items for the children and laundry detergent, which he distributed to the families. The experience was moving, and at times quite emotional. Even if you try to prepare yourself by reading or watching videos online, nothing really compares to seeing the reality with your own eyes. The local people are warm and welcoming, and the children were full of joy when receiving the small gifts. A small suggestion: if you’re able to bring anything with you — like notebooks, coloring books, crayons, small backpacks, children's clothes, detergent, or rice — these things are truly appreciated and very much needed. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Bilal as a guide. This experience is not just a tour — it’s a powerful reminder of humanity, generosity, and perspective. And supporting someone like Bilal, who works hard and gives back to his community, makes it all the more meaningful.
