I guess there is not much to say than just go there! Fast service, delicious Pastel de Nata, they are a legend in the pastries! They are around since 1837, they have definately perfected their craft. Besides the pasteis and the latte we also ordered a duchesse (forgot to take a pic). Nice surprise as it is not too sweet and the chantilly was very fresh! Every time we are in Portugal, this is a must go place. Dont be scared by the huge line to get in or order to go, everything goes very fast (at least in January).

It’s a very nice place to sit and relax after checking out the Monastery, or walking along the waterfront. Unfortunately the Pastel de Nata I had were pretty much cold, they weren’t very fresh. I was pretty surprised by this since I imagine they go throw these pastries very quickly. Anyway, it’s still a nice place with many pastries. The service is okay, but they are usually very busy.

The purpose of my visit was to try pastéis de Belém, as they differ in origin, recipe, and exclusivity from the more common pastéis de nata. A Portuguese colleague highly recommended stopping by if I was ever in the neighborhood, so I decided to give it a try. In my opinion, the wait was absolutely worth it, as I truly enjoyed this version of the pastéis. While the indoor seating area isn’t particularly remarkable (being quite open to accommodate the large number of visitors) the shop still features charming decorative details and several small seating areas thoughtfully distributed throughout the space. Overall, I was very happy with my visit and completely understand why this place is so popular. Remarks: if you don’t have time and not a big foodie, it’s better to skip this place as some people doesn’t notice nor appreciate the differences in taste (but main purpose of the visit should be trying out the pastéis de Belém as you can only eat it here as the name of the place states it as the original one that dates back long time ago).

It looks like a storefront but it’s actually a full-fledged restaurant that is really huge. The seating area is massive and can accommodate a lot of people. The interior looks very traditional but yet very comfortable and bright. We ordered the signature Portuguese egg tarts, some coffee and a chocolate cake. The egg tarts were really delicious. The skin on the outside has layers of crispy pastry while the egg custard is baked to perfection. The taste is not overly sweet which is nice to be paired with any coffee. Chocolate cake was exceptional as well. I would highly recommend the egg tats for all visitors. Do come early to avoid the queue. It can get very busy during peak hours and waiting times could be very long.

We enjoyed the full bakery experience of this location- eating pastries, sandwiches and coffees on site and taking baked goods to go. Eating indoors required a wait. However once seated, the service was quite quick and worth the wait. Such a treat! Also I liked the pretty indoor tiles, outdoor patio, and pretty store. Thank you for opening up your business to visitors in so many ways.
