Brilliant experience. Fabulous boat and fabulous passionate staff. Very rough day that we went out but felt very safe. Unfortunately didn't see whales but saw plenty of dolphins and other wildlife. This made up for it. The dolphins were amazing. 80% of my fee was back in my account the next day which I am very grateful for and feel slightly guilty about as I had such a good time. That is their business model though, so they obviously expect to see whales, I was probably just unlucky. Well worth it. Ace.
I thought team whale watching did a fantastic job on Sunday. From giving the tourists a glimpse of a hump back then the incredible sighting of the sperm whale as its tail came up. The team made sure the kids were in the front so they could see which l admired .The team gave interesting facts about the whales and also maori stories with humour and joy. The best part was the incredible care and honour for the whales ,sea life the crew spoke about. I had an emotional experience and will live in my heart forever. Well done 😃 🐋
It was wonderful! The place itself is made for tourists but not like you know it from other countries. There is no mass processing. It's more like a big school trip. The staff is amazing. They have knowledge and experience. But the most important thing for me is to not ever disturb or attract the wildlife. If you are with the whale watch kaikoura crew, you are a guest in the world of whales and dolphins. They use a jetboat to minimize underwater noise and are more than interested to keep their sealife as it is. Now the best part: we met humpbackwhales, dolphins, hector dolphins, albatrosses and seals. The dolphins were quite playful and visited our boat. That was very special and I will never forget that.
An absolutely fantastic experience! The crew were professional and friendly, and there was a wildlife/whale expert onboard who shared fascinating information about the whales and their behaviour. They even showed an interesting short film whilst on board. We were lucky enough to spot humpback whales, and the team made sure everyone on board knew where to look and had plenty of time to get a good view. We also saw a pod of playful dusky dolphins, which was an amazing bonus! Overall, an unforgettable trip, informative, well-organized, and full of incredible marine life. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kaikoura!
This is the second whale watch trip we've taken with Whale Watch Kaikoura and it was as impressive as the first. It's a really professional business, the boat is in great condition, comfortable and eco-friendly. The staff our knowledgeable, funny and friendly. And of course the experience seeing whales, dolphins, seals, sea birds in their natural environment is incredible. We've been lucky both times. Saw a Sperm whale and more then 50 dolphins on our first trip in April 2021 and 3 humpbacks and dolphins with their babies this time in Oct 2025. Highly recommend will go again. A great trip for the whole family, kids were 8 and 10 first time and 12 and 14 this time.
