By bubble dome I was referring to the Yurt which is of course a dome. 2nd, nothing on the owners website refers to the eco nature of the place, but it mentions luxury several times. Yes it may be in the nature and fields, but thats no excuse for the number of cobwebs in the cabin we stayed in. If you think thats acceptable I just dont know what to say. Overpriced and under cleaned. We should have stayed at Slieve Donard for the same price. Situated in a nice location, though not far from a public road so traffic can be heard. I marked the service as low because our stay in the Kingfisher's cabin was not exactly cheap and to have logs, towels or robes provided all were optional paid extras. These should 100% be included in the price. The room on first glance was nice enough, but later at bed time we realised that the roof of the cabin was absolutely covered in cobwebs. My girlfriend who booked the stay for my birthday was very disappointed as she has a fear of spiders and actualy found one on her arm during the stay. We raised this with the owner after the stay who's response was that the cobwebs were removed during regular cleaning and certsinly werent cleaned prior to our stay to a level we would have expected. A step ladder and a duster would surely fix this problem if done a few times per week at minimum. On top of that the bedding didnt exactly have a fresh smell. The bathroom and toilet room was quite dingy feeling, with a concrete floor and little to no decor. The owner was dismissive of our complaints, offered no resolution like money back or a discount off a future stay, though unless we were guaranteed that one of the other rooms didnt have this spider issue we wouldnt be back anyway. We were told the cobwebs were a reflection of the eco-friendly glamping site they run but there website mentions nothing like this, only the words luxury are used to describe the place and I can assure you that our stay was far from luxurious. Lastly, we were informed that the cabin would be very private but we had one cabin in direct view of our hot tub location and a bubble dome close enough to hear them ordering food and chatting. Very disappointing stay for the money paid. Avoid like the plague if you have any fear of spiders or are expecting a true luxurious experience.
couldn’t have enjoyed it more was just the most perfect place to be. Ciara and Derek have put their heart and soul into this and it’s 100% paid off. We loved everything about the Skylarks Retreat and will be back again in no time.
What an absolutely wonderful space to escape the chaos of life. Nestled right at the foot of The Mournes, with breathtaking views of the mountains, private hot tubs, wonderful access to hiking, cold water swimming this is an encounter with nature at its finest. The cosy cabins are rustic and enchanting and peaceful. A wonderful place, with wonderful hosts.
