Incredible hike and beautiful scenery! The hike is not at all difficult except for the initial climb up the ridge, then its mostly flat with a wonderful view of the mountains. The other path is slightly more scramble- best to come down this way as the view isn't as good anyway. Few things to note: The chair lift is often closed in October for maintenance- you can find this information on their website. If its closed you might get lucky and have jeeps driving you up the path, more likely to be on a weekend. If you book directly through a hostel this will likely be possible. The weather was incredible even in late October. The only snow was on the mountains themselves and not on the paths- although they were icy in places due to recent rain. There is a cabin at the start selling coffee and refreshments, aswell as hot food and beer. Great place to start and finish your walk. There is also a few souvenirs at the bottom Brilliant experience, best to book through a hostel on a proper guide to make sure your prepared properly
Breathtaking views, amazing nature and great walk and energy. First time visiting and we were hypnotised by the beauty of Rila. Easy to follow the signs of the hike, we missed couple of the lakes, as the weather turned cloudy and rained and rushed us to get to dry place. I absolutely recommend visiting and taking a good time to stop and take in the views .
We decided to skip the lift from the hut and do the hike from the parking point - it was completely worth it. From start to finish, it took us about 4 hours to pass through all the lakes, with only one quick stop for food. The trail is well-marked. The views are absolutely breathtaking, each lake is stunning. The trail is a bit challenging without the lift, but so worth it for the experience. Must-do if you’re in Bulgaria! * We started hiking at 6:30 AM and were so glad we did — the trail was peaceful, almost empty, and you could really enjoy the sounds of nature. People only started arriving when the lift opened around 8:30, so going early made a huge difference.
