The Anti-Nuclear Bunker in Tirana is a remarkable relic from the communist era, showcasing the extreme measures taken during that period. Built as a massive underground palace spanning five floors, it contains 106 rooms along with a large assembly hall. This extensive facility was designed to protect high-ranking officials in the event of a nuclear attack, reflecting both the political climate and architectural ambition of its time. Today, the bunker serves as a fascinating historical site, allowing visitors to explore its labyrinthine corridors and gain insight into Albania’s unique Cold War history.

Dajti, the main mountain overlooking Tirana, offers a completely different experience, blending natural beauty with recreational activities. Visitors can ascend the mountain via cable car, enjoying panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscapes along the way. The area is home to a vast mountain park with dense forests, walking trails, and spaces for local people to engage in outdoor activities. Dajti provides both adventure and relaxation, making it a popular escape for nature lovers and those looking to experience the scenic charm of Tirana beyond its urban environment.

We did this wonderful tour with the Choose Balkans team who were outstanding from start to finish! I spoke to Sirma who helped me so much with all the info we needed (meeting place etc) and was so friendly and kind. Markel carried out our tour and he really was great fun, so clever and learnt so many great facts about Albanian history and culture! And the FOOD - do not eat before you come on this tour lol you get so much lovely local food in proper authentic places, would recommend to anyone, thank you so much it was a delight! ❤️

we did the tour as a couple and wanted to see more than just the highlights, what you find in online guides. Our amazing guide Brikena was extremely knowledgeble and also was flexible to our needs in where we needed more time. The tour had several stops to get food (it started with a delicious snack at the beginning), but the highlight was the last stop at a Kommunist bar with the most important "holy water" - the RAKI. Brikena also gave us insight in life and culture of Albanian people and we even learned some vocabularies for our next visit. She didn't monitor the time strictly - so our tour was almost one hour longer, because we had so much to ask and to see. We can absolutely recommend this tour and our guide.

My 14yr old son and I went on the food and walking tour of Tirana. We started a few minutes late, but ended up more than making up for it during and after the tour. The food stops, history, and paths we toook around the city all were off the beaten path. Our guide, Markel, was excellent at listening to our preferences and making it as personalized as possible (ie- giving my son extra shopping places to try :) We enjoyed every moment and even retraced most of the tour on our own later in the day to revisit some of our favorite places we wanted to explore more. Thank you!

Excellent tour. Great local foods which included breakfast and lunch and lots of snacks. The tour guide, Markel, included several markets we would not have found on our own. Great walking tour to get an overview of the city
