This tour includes a challenging hike to and from the Fagradalsfjall volcano, requiring good physical fitness and preparation. The hike is considered hard and typically takes around two to three hours each way. It is important to wear sturdy hiking shoes for traction and support, as well as a waterproof jacket and warm clothing to protect against Iceland’s often unpredictable weather. Bringing enough water and snacks or dinner is essential to stay energized throughout the journey. Additionally, a regular face mask is recommended to protect against volcanic ash and dust that may be present in the air near the active volcano site.
The tour departs in the afternoon or evening from Reykjavík, heading straight to the Fagradalsfjall volcano area located in the Geldingalur valley. Here, you will witness the awe-inspiring geological activity of Iceland’s most recent volcanic eruption and see the land forming in real time. It is important to be prepared for variable conditions and to follow safety guidelines closely. This unique experience offers a rare opportunity to connect with Iceland’s raw natural forces, making it both a thrilling and memorable adventure.

We didn't do the tour, we went by foot. It was pouring, and the trucks went very, very fast and spilled everyone with muddy water. It seemed like they were doing it on purpose. However, we saw the volcano erupting and it was amazing, even though the weather was not accompanying us that day.

Just an absolutely unreal experience. Once in a lifetime. Something I’d never thought I’d get a chance to see. Our guide Hoffi was fantastic! He is super passionate about what he does it’s obvious. We met at a local spot and then followed him to our parking lot. We got our bearings and then began our hike. It’s a very long hike (about 7-8 miles total) and through very muddy, rocky, mossy terrain. Some parts were easier than others. Either way it was so worth it to see the volcano erupting! Haffi brought his own camera so we could zoom in and see the lava even better. He took moments to show up local current news articles and made sure everyone felt like they had good pictures and enough time to see everything and take it in. He was a fantastic guide and made our experience even better! We loved this and it was a highlight of our trip!

Was luck to see the latest eruption and live volcanic activity. I was able to see lava streams (22jul2025). I went again on 24July and the lava streams were gone due to the rain. It is a beautiful place to hike for volcano fields from previous eruptions.

We didn't do the tours. There is a large parking lot and you can park there for 1000 ISK. The walk to the lava is a bit more than 1 hour and you get a great view to the volcano. The lava was close enough and red hot and you can walk up to it. Walk to the very end and you have the best view. Walk is not hard, just long and a bit more then 5km. You can also pay 10000 ISK per person to get a ride.

A talented, knowledgeable guide made the tour engaging for all the guests. History, folklore, geology, botany. Everything covered, with concern about our health and respect for every person in the group. The foundation for the very special tour! Lava and Magma, hot wells and inland lakes, Trolls and Elves. Wear shoes with a good tread on them.
