The forest around Mo i Rana is lush, green, and filled with the sweet scent of nature. As you ascend the steep slopes, every step brings you deeper into a world of sensory experiences—the cheerful calls of birds, the rush of small rivers cascading down the hillside, and the quiet joy of others walking the same path. These sounds and sights linger in your soul, creating lasting memories. Along the way, you’ll pass sparkling streams and reach Varmosletta, a serene spot with benches and a small stage, ideal for a peaceful rest. A refreshing spring, located halfway up, invites you to stop and drink its cold, pure water. One highlight of the hike is Tjuvtrappa, a place with a curious name that traces back to a local tale of a woman who once stole a cow and led it over the mountainside from Loftfjellgården to Selfors. Although there are no stairs here and never have been, the stepped terrain explains the name. The area has been home to many over the years, with the current owner's family, including Arne Loftfjell, having lived there since 1873, although the land has likely been inhabited much longer. This guided hike takes you along an old trail up to one of the highest points in Mo i Rana, where you'll learn the local history and enjoy breathtaking views from what is often called the “roof” of the city. At around 400 meters elevation, you'll be treated to panoramic views that make the effort well worth it. The round trip lasts about 2.5 hours, and you can be picked up from your hotel or meet directly at the trailhead. Maps are provided at your hotel, and once at the top, there’s time to enjoy a fire-made coffee and even have lunch if you like. The experience includes a map, guide, and bonfire (weather permitting), but please note it requires at least three participants—though you’re welcome to book for three even if your group is smaller.
