Spend an unforgettable day exploring the wild landscapes of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park near the historic town of Sagres. Located at one of the most dramatic edges of Europe, this coastal region offers spectacular cliffs, open fields, and rich birdlife habitats. Your journey begins near the impressive Sagres Fortress where low bushes attract migratory birds during seasonal movements. Along the cliffs, seabirds glide across the Atlantic breeze while species such as Northern Gannet, Great Skua, Blue Rock Thrush, and Black Redstart may be spotted. The surrounding landscapes also host birds like Woodchat Shrike and Northern Wheatear, creating excellent opportunities for birdwatching and photography.
The exploration continues through scenic areas filled with wildflowers, open farmland, and quiet pine woods. Raptors occasionally soar above the cliffs and hills including the impressive Short toed Snake Eagle and the agile Common Kestrel. A peaceful pine woodland offers shade for a relaxed lunch while observing small birds such as European Serin and other finches. Later the journey reaches the dramatic cliffs of Cape St Vincent where rare nesting colonies of White Stork can sometimes be seen along the sea cliffs. The day concludes in the rural landscapes near Vila do Bispo and Vale Santo, an area known for farmland birds including the remarkable Little Bustard and the watchful Southern Grey Shrike.
