This seven to eight-hour tour takes you to a stunning and unique rock formation covering about one square mile, often referred to as “Brain Rock.” Its swirling red, orange, and yellow patterns create a surreal landscape that can feel like stepping onto the surface of Mars. Recently, the formation gained attention as one of the wallpaper options on Apple devices. This tour is considered an excellent alternative to the Wave, but unlike the Wave, no permit is required. The route involves walking through deep sand, but high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles and experienced guides ensure a safe and smooth journey. Along the way, the tour usually stops at the California Condors release site on the Vermillion Cliffs, where guests can observe these magnificent birds nesting in their natural habitat.
The tour offers flexible pickup options from local accommodations in Kanab or a meeting point at the Coral Cliffs Tours office. Guests coming from Page can also meet at the off-road turnoff parking lot at the junction of House Rock Valley Road and Highway 89. The hike ranges from approximately 1.5 to 2.5 miles roundtrip depending on how much exploration is desired, with mostly flat terrain interspersed with uneven rocks and boulders in certain areas. Little to no shade is available, so guests are advised to bring hiking shoes, layered clothing suitable for the weather, sun protection, water, and a lunch or snacks that can be carried safely on bumpy roads. This combination of vibrant scenery, wildlife spotting, and off-road adventure makes the tour ideal for photography enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers seeking a memorable experience.
