Immerse yourself in the vibrant flavors of Mexico with our hands-on afternoon cooking class, where you’ll learn to prepare authentic tacos, beans, salsas, and traditional Mexican drinks. This experience is centered around one of the country’s most iconic street foods—tacos Al Pastor. We’ll guide you through the process of selecting ingredients and crafting the perfect marinade to make “Trompitos,” the way locals do with meat cooked on a vertical spit. This isn’t just a cooking class—it’s a cultural journey that begins at the heart of Cozumel’s culinary tradition.

What makes this experience truly special is its setting in our personal family kitchen. You’ll be welcomed into our local home where the preparation happens, offering a warm, authentic environment to deepen your connection with Mexican culture. As the final step, you’ll join us around the dinner table to enjoy everything you’ve prepared. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a flavorful memory created with new friends and real Mexican hospitality. ¡Provecho!

An Unforgettable Day of Cozumel Culture and Cooking! We spent nearly four hours completely immersed in authentic Cozumel culture, and it was hands down one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to bring my husband and boys back to do it, too! First stop: the local local market (not the touristy one) where we learned about which ingredients are native versus imported, how to pick the freshest produce, and did a little shopping for souvenirs. Next stop: right across the street for fresh, warm tortillas sprinkled with just a little salt. Simple, perfect, and absolutely heavenly. Final stop: the home of Jeronimo and his mother, Josefina. For three hours, we cooked, laughed, and learned together, it felt like spending the afternoon at a family member’s house. We made so much: refreshing Jamaica to drink, a “Mexican hummus” made from roasted pumpkin seeds, tomatoes, and habanero powder (I loved it so much I bought the ingredients to take home!), both red and green salsas, refried beans I’ll never make any other way again, and authentic chile rellenos, one vegetarian with patty pan squash and Oaxaca cheese, and another with ground beef. We also whipped up fresh pico de gallo, guacamole, handmade tortillas, and dragonfruit lemonade. My favorite? Squash topped with shredded cheese, a Dutch influence from a centuries-old shipwreck! We ended with snapper Veracruz made with fish Jeronimo caught that very morning. This was an incredible, heartfelt day full of stories, flavor, and connection. Jeronimo is a true gem, passionate, warm, and welcoming. If you want to experience Cozumel in the most authentic, personal way possible, this is it.

Got to experience a class with Jeronimo and Angie. It was wonderful. My brother and sisters all agreed it was our favorite excursion of our entire sibling cruise and we would love to do it again our next visit. We loved the versatility of being able to pick what we wanted to learn to cook. We loved starting at the local mercado to pick the fresh ingredients and all the knowledge that Jeronimo shared about the produce, the meats and fish, and the fresh spices. By far the best margaritas we've all ever had in our lives!! So grateful for the e-cookbook that's included. My brother got home last night and is making the food we learned to cook tonight for his family, including the agua fresca. Thank you for sharing your family's love of food with ours. We hope to be back soon!! Where do we get that hibiscus tea????

A great way to learn a ton about Mexican cooking. Jeronimo and team treated us to an excellent market visit, showed us the local tortilla factores and helped us cook Mole (our choice). We cooked many dishes and left super full of fresh flavors. Super clean and well done. A fantastic experience, well worth it.

Authentic & Delicious – A Must-Do Experience at Josephina’s Cooking School! Our cooking class with Jeronimo at Josephina’s Cooking School in Cozumel was an unforgettable experience and truly one of the highlights of our trip! Before the class, Jeronimo provided us with multiple recipe options to choose from, allowing us to customize our menu to our group’s tastes. We started the day by shopping together at the local market, where we learned about fresh, regional produce and ingredients. It was a great way to immerse ourselves in the local food culture before getting hands-on in the kitchen. Back at Jeronimo’s home, we jumped into a fantastic cooking experience. We made fresh tortillas, guacamole, salsa, refried beans, chicken, pork, and more—everything was absolutely delicious, and we were completely stuffed by the end! Jeronimo was warm, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience fun and engaging for everyone. This wasn’t just a cooking class—it was a genuine cultural connection and one we’ll always remember. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Cozumel and looking for something truly special!

Highly recommend! I attended the class last week and am so glad I did. Jeronimo is very knowledgeable and taught us so much about the history and health benefits of the ingredients we were choosing as well as how to naviagate the Mercado, I am now confident to visit again on my own. We prepared and enjoyed so many dishes, I felt that it was a great value. I cannot wait to try and make some of the dishes at home. If you like to be adventurous in the kitchen and learn more about the local culture of Cozumel this culinary experience is a must!
