Stayed in Juniper Lodge, with perfect views of Old Man Coniston. It included a hot tub, which was needed this time of year. The bed was the stand out, with its frame. It was the perfect location to explore the Lake District. Supplied all the necessities, and it was lovely waking up to the sight of sheep.
Mill race cottage is in a beautiful place with magnificent views surrounding the cottage. Entry at 5pm is quite late (they let you know if you can go in earlier). The kitchen worktop wasn't properly cleaned so I did it myself and carried on unpacking. The head boards on the bed bang on the wall when turning over, we put cushions behind them to stop this. There was a lot of dust on top of the bedroom door frame. The grill is very slow cooking so we cooked in the oven or pans instead. Our previous stay at this cottage had better memories and we don't think it's been refurbished since possibly 12 years ago. Also we had no towels for the hot tub. The fire alarm went off around 9am. No one arrived or seemed concerned when I phoned the office but the cleaners turned up as we were leaving. On the positive side, the cottage is quirky with beautiful views, walks from the door and water falls all around. Hopefully it will get refurbished and get fire alarm issue fixed.
Very nice 2 bed period accommodation in the centre of Coniston. Cracking Hot Tub, perfect to relax in after hitting The Old Man or Scaffel Pike. All necessary amenities provided. Bedding, Towels, etc. Even some complimentary Tea and Coffee if you forgot to get any before arriving. Very helpful lady in the Coppermines office right next door. Restaurants and Pubs and within 2 minutes walk or less, garage, cafes and local shops within 3 minutes. Perfect location for exploring the rest of the Lake District. Info. Book is provided and is very helpful. Be aware many areas in the Lakes have no mobile signal at all! Use downloaded maps if you are going to use a phone app. Also, carry paper maps and compass. Google and Apple maps do not always work if travelling, so route cards may be useful. Enjoy.
