Red inflatable standup paddleboards, including an adjustable paddle, are available to hire from Sandend on the Moray Firth. If you wish to use these boards outside of Sandend, a £100 deposit along with a driving licence or passport is required. Other times and dates are available on request. Safety is a priority when paddleboarding, so simple precautions should always be followed: inform someone of your plans and expected return time, carry a mobile phone or communication device, check weather forecasts and tide times, avoid offshore winds, go with a friend, wear a suitable personal flotation device, dress appropriately for the conditions, always use your leash, and launch and recover between marked flags. Understanding the rights of way in the surf and obtaining proper training also ensures a safer experience for you and others on the water.
Standup paddleboarding (SUP) at Suds Surf School offers a fun and accessible way to enjoy the water while improving fitness. Originating in Polynesia and popularized in Hawaii, SUP allows paddlers to see waves from a higher vantage point and provides a full-body workout that engages nearly every muscle. The boards offer stability and comfort for gliding across the water, and standing up allows you to observe marine life beneath. SUP is suitable for adults and children aged 8 and above, with parental supervision required for participants under 12 and observation required for those under 18. Lessons are typically 2 hours long, with group sizes limited to six for flat-water SUP and two for SUP surf lessons. Discounts are available for larger groups, though groups may need to be divided to maintain manageable sizes. Weather and water conditions may affect availability, so flexibility and safety are emphasized throughout the experience.
