Harar, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a city that feels like it belongs to another era. With 368 winding alleyways packed into just one square kilometer, it exudes an atmosphere more akin to Fez in Morocco than any other place in the Horn of Africa. The city is a tapestry of history and culture, boasting an extraordinary number of mosques and shrines, bustling markets teeming with life, and ancient walls that whisper tales of centuries past. Every corner reveals a new wonder, whether it’s the scent of rich Ethiopian coffee wafting through the air or the laughter of residents who have perfected the art of hospitality. The city's old-world charm makes it an unforgettable destination that leaves a lasting impression on those who wander through its labyrinthine streets.
Beyond its architectural and cultural richness, Harar offers one of the most surreal wildlife encounters in the world—the chance to come face to face with wild hyenas. This centuries-old tradition, where locals feed hyenas by hand, is a mesmerizing sight that defies expectations. As dusk falls, these creatures emerge from the surrounding hills, drawn to the city’s edge by the promise of food. Watching them up close is both thrilling and eerie, an experience that blurs the line between urban life and untamed nature. The spirit of Harar is unlike anywhere else; it’s a place that captivates visitors with its rich traditions, vibrant streets, and the rare opportunity to witness the harmonious coexistence of man and beast.

Really great tour led by Joseph with George driving. The Portuguese Bridge and waterfall were amazingly pretty and the nature and having lunch in this area was really nice. We visited the Monetary in this area and also the drive there from Addis is very interesting seeing around 5 local towns and villages on the way. As a day trip highly recommended. A great way to see more of the country outside of Addis 10/10

The Heart of Ethiopia Has a Name: Yihun and Sisay We spent 20 days traveling through Ethiopia — a country as fascinating as it is complex. But what truly made this journey unforgettable was experiencing it alongside Yihun and Sisay. They weren’t just our guide and driver; they were the soul of our trip, and choosing to travel with them was the best decision we could have made. Yihun is the kind of guide every traveler dreams of: deeply professional, always attentive, and with a calm presence that makes you feel safe from the first moment. His knowledge of the country — its history, its culture, its people — is vast, and he shares it with passion and respect. He made sure every single day went smoothly, shielding us from scams and inconveniences, and ensuring we could simply enjoy and learn. But above all, he’s a kind, generous, and honest human being. I brought back many memories from Ethiopia, but his friendship is by far the most precious. Sisay, our driver, was another gift. In a country where traffic rules seem to be merely suggestions, he was a constant source of safety and peace of mind. He drives skillfully and carefully, always with a big smile on his face. He kept us entertained during long drives, shared the music and rhythms of each region, and was equally curious and open to hearing music from our own country. His joy, warmth, and attentiveness made him much more than a driver — he became a beloved travel companion. Ethiopia can be a challenging destination, but thanks to them, it felt welcoming, human, and full of light. They showed us their land with pride, dedication, and a level of humanity that’s rare to find. By the end of the trip, saying goodbye brought a lump to our throats and the certainty that we were leaving behind two real friends. If you’re thinking of traveling to Ethiopia, do it with them. They are exceptional professionals and even better people. Thanks to Yihun and Sisay, we didn’t just discover a country — we discovered its heart.

My wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable trip with Joseph & George. Both were excellent, professional and knowledgeable. We explored plenty of Addis Ababa during a 24 hour layover. Museums, food, markets culture, history and coffee were all covered during this private (just the two of us) tour. Highly recommend.

This is the tour group you want! I am not sure what I was expecting when we booked the 5-day tour of northern Ethiopia, but I was blown away at every stop. It was a bucket list trip I didn’t know was on my bucket list. Gondar, the Simien Mountains, Bahir Dar and, of course, Lalibela were not only culturally and historically interesting but the trips in between were stunning. Every minute of this trip felt informative and entertaining and so much of that is thanks to Yoseph and our fantastic driver ‘Fruit’. Both of these guys felt immediately like old friends and I can’t wait to get back to Ethiopia with them to see more of this beautiful country. Aman runs an incredible company with great people. Book them!

From all the tour operators that I traveled; Aman Ethiopia Tours was the best! The trip was a real tour de force, with more than 6000 km traveled in 15 days, from north Danakil to Omo Valley in south. And everything was just perfect during this time – some of the best hotels, good places to eat, frequent breaks for relaxation and clean windshield for us to take pictures during this road trip that included most of the highlights that the country has to offer. Also, their partner guides, like the ones that we had at Lalibela churches or Gondar castle, were surpassingly passionate about the places that they were representing, knowledgeable and having answers to all our questions. The drivers (Niko and Neway) not only that they were professional ones (driving is a serios deal in Ethiopia) but they were kind, friendly and funny, and they brought a great vibe to the whole trip. They gave me the feeling that we are all a group of friends traveling together, not that they are at their job transporting customers. Besides that, they were always there if we had any kind of problems (like the time when my sandals broke and Niko searched on his own for a shoe repair point). Also, I loved the fact that they were respectful and polite with the locals and with the ethnic groups. And that they took a lot of pictures for us For sure the tour operator that you chose has a great contribution to the success of your trip, and these guys had their share in the fact that I loved so much this country. Thank you! For sure I will choose them again and I will recommend them to anyone who wants to visit Ethiopia. It’s that kind of operator that will go an extra mile for its customers.
