We had an amazing day in the Douro Wine Valley with Ana and Filipa! They picked us up outside of our hotel in Porto and on our drive Douro, got to know us and explained the history of the Valley and also explained more about the wine from the region and the terroir. Our first stop was at a Port maker, where we tried white port (our new favourite!), ruby port and two tawny ports. It was really interesting to see the barrels the port is kept in as well as where the grape stomping/foot treading is done! The port’s were really good, and Ana also brought along some pairing options (almonds & dark chocolate). We then had our lunch stop at Toca da Raposa which was a really delicious menu from the region, we had oranges and the main dish was pork which was really super delicious (I usually don’t like Pork so was really surprised that I loved this!). The lunch came with wine pairings as well which complemented the meal very well. Lastly, we visited a modern winery where we got to see the entire wine making setup (which was really interesting, as the winery is over multiple floors and the wine is transferred by gravity!). We also got to taste several wines here as well as olive oils. We were also really grateful that Ana catered the tour to our preferences - I am not a big red wine drinker so I received more white wines and more port in my tasting! I have recommended this to many friends and family and we hope to also visit one day, this is definitely the perfect tour if you want to spend a day in Duoro!
Fantastic day in the Douro valley with Douro Exclusive. Tour included two wineries and a top notch lunch with wine pairings. Could not have a had a better guide through this historical area than Ana. Highly recommend this company
We did a private tour with Ana that was absolutely amazing. We did the tour that included the Michelin star chef restaurant (DOC). Ana picked us up from our hotel in Porto then it was a beautiful drive out to the Duoro valley. Along the way, Ana gave us history of the local areas and talked about how Duoro has new winemakers that are doing more than just porto wine. Our first stop was our favorite, it was at a small winery where they are trying new styles that were all great. The owners were so nice and hospitable. We tried a variety of wines that were all great. And then of course they had some tawny port that was fantastic. Next stop we had lunch at DOC. We don't really do fine dining so this was outside of our comfort zone. It was absolutely amazing...while we got a tasting menu, due my milk allergies, they were able to heavily modify my meal which was much appreciated it. One of the best meals of our life. Finally we did our final stop at a slightly larger porto wine maker. Got to taste many different types of port which made my wife realize she likes LBV port! This tour was absolutely great. It was the perfect amount of wine where we felt a bit loose but never too much. Ana was such a great guide and the vehicle for the tour was very nice. Would highly recommend!!
