Fossils are wonderful but the staff made the experience phenomenal! They were so helpful, knowledgeable, and funny! The guy who was cutting up our pieces was making jokes the whole time and so friendly. Another guy who was helping us identify the fossils was super knowledgeable and was super sweet even when he was asked a bunch of dumb questions. The lady at the front desk was so nice and fun to talk with. I will 100% be coming back to this quarry because of how great they made the experience.
Fossil Lake Safari was like stepping into the dirty boots 🥾 of a rock hounding, paleontologist 🦖 wannabe for a few hours— getting to dig up fishy fossils from 50+ million years ago 🌍. The staff were absolute gems 💎: knowledgeable, patient, and somehow making limestone encrusted 50-million-year-old fish fossils (including fishy-feces 💩) way more exciting than I was anticipating. They guide you through safety measures, rock chiseling, identifying your specimens, extracting your finds, prepping your treasures, and safely leaving with your prehistoric catch 🦴🐟🦴. I left feeling like a big-boy fossil hunter 🏹, with limestone dust in places the sun don't shine 🙈and many awesome pieces of ancient Green River Formation history. If you’ve ever wanted to say, “Hey, I personally unearthed something older than most countries,” this is your spot. Plus, the crew’s passion and attitude made the whole adventure feel like hanging out with dirt-loving friends rather than a boring museum tour. Highly recommend—10/10 would get fishy fossil fever again!
The staff is awesome and the experience is memorable. 2 hours would have left me wanting to continue longer, 4 hours just enough, 8 hours probably too long. My family all found several fish and poops. There were often fossils that were passed over from others too since everyone is looking for that perfect specimen or the bigger fish. We were happy with what we found. We left with a suitcase full. We did not make a reservation for a weekday. They offered a military discount too. Thank you! They even help cut the stones after so they are in manageable pieces. This place was the main reason I took the trip from CA and I’m so glad I did. Be sure to follow the turn by turn directions on how to get there though vs google so you don’t get lost.
