Sept, 2025 visit. We thoroughly enjoyed this jeep tour and the history/information provided by Deb. Everyone we met was pleasant, and knowledgeable. Our only wish was to have spent a short time at the Buffalo center, and the ride seemed rushed. Deb took us to the top of a mesa for the view, but did not offer for us to get out of jeep to appreciate the 360 degree views. We suggest doing this jeep ride first and then visit again those spots where you wish to spend more time. We will return.
The tour was excellent. Our driver Alan was truly interested in giving us a great experience. We saw a tremendous amount of wildlife and couldn’t have been happier. The chuck wagon dinner afterwards was excellent (which frankly shocked as as our expectations were low). May have been our best meal (other than what we cooked ourselves at our VRBO). Thank you. Highly recommend
AMAZING STATE PARK TOURS! I highly recommend taking a look around Custer State Park and the Peter Norbeck Scenic Highway courtesy of the *Sunrise Buffalo Safari Tour AND the *Needles Open Air Jeep Highway Tour. You will learn the history of the area, see wildlife and get a chance to breathe some fresh air amongst the rolling hills and winding, mountainous roadways. These two tours are WORTH IT! If you can plan your trip to take place just prior to the annual Buffalo Roundup Event (end of September) the bison are NUMEROUS in the staging area and they wander around the touring vehicles in herds. You will also likely see mules, prong horn sheep, prairie dogs, etc. On our tour we witnessed a young bison lose his balance while bucking on a hillside and he actually did a front flip. Even DAN (our amazing tour guide from Iowa chuckled). On the Open Air Jeep Needles Highway Tour the views are spectacular and you get to experience a little off road combined with the winding Needles paved roads. Again the history is really interesting and there are plenty of photo opportunities. KAT (our incredible tour guide) was funny, full of facts and so accommodating. We had an amazing day and did the trips back to back, with an hour in between to grab a quick breakfast at the State Game Lodge. We loved the smallness of the tours and the guides were phenomenal. Highly recommend both of these adventures. ❤️
