Customer Reviews

A landmark restaurant on the edge of Central Park. We visited for Christmas brunch and were very pleased with the four course tasting menu. The service was attentive and professional and the food was simple but elegantly executed. The halibut was exceptionally prepared and was my favorite dish of the day. The homemade bloody marys were some of the best we have had.

The atmosphere, the history, the architecture, the preservation, the welcoming elegance, the impeccable attention to detail…I love this beautiful place. From the moment you step in it’s as if you stepped into a 1940s Christmas card, and when I’m away too live in California I miss it. I admit I wish the lunch selection was a little wider, still options for a pescatarian, went with the tofu eggplant which was warm comfort food. My partner got the brick chicken loved it and didn’t find any brick lol. If you’ve never been, and at going around the holidays, plan early and make reservations. I did see people walk up and get in and I was that lucky once before. Look around, walk through the restaurant, soak it in. The master craftsmen that built this place are long gone and nothing will ever be built like this again. There’s even a gift shop full of beautiful things of which I own a few! Bless Jim Caiola and David Salama (Emerald Green Group) who spent 20 million (yes) restoring this landmark in 2014. I am grateful for their vision and dedication!

Went here for a New Year’s Eve party and I’m honestly conflicted, because parts of the night were fantastic and parts were shockingly bad. The party itself? Great. The DJ was awesome and somehow played everything from 1970s classics to today without missing a beat. The mood was fun, the NYE decor worked, and the energy stayed up all night. Watching the fireworks from the outside patio at midnight was the highlight. That moment felt genuinely special. But the food was awful. The first thing they served was a clam with caviar and it smelled off, like it wasn’t fresh, and the taste confirmed it. The salad was underdressed and oversalted at the same time, which is almost impressive in the worst way. The scallops were so oversalted they were basically inedible. Then dessert came out and everything was dry, like it had been made days earlier. Service didn’t save it either. Plates were dropped off with barely a glance, no real engagement, and the whole thing felt rushed and indifferent. On New Year’s Eve, when you’re paying a premium, that just doesn’t fly. Bottom line: amazing party and fireworks, but terrible food and disappointing service for the price. I wouldn’t go back.
