Diesel Freight Train

During the Winter Spectacular guests travel behind Diesel Locomotive 19 pulling a recreated freight train along the historic mainline. This special journey explores the idea of how the railroad might have evolved if diesel power had replaced steam during its final years of operation. The excursion offers an authentic atmosphere with vintage railcars historic scenery and a rare chance to enjoy heritage rail travel during winter. Seating is very limited which creates a calm and memorable trip focused on history storytelling and relaxed viewing rather than staged photo moments.

Guests begin their visit at Orbisonia Station where check in and orientation take place before boarding. The roundtrip excursion lasts about one hour and travels north toward Colgate Grove before returning. Historic equipment requires climbing steep narrow stairs and this specific departure does not support ADA accessibility. Enclosed coaches and caboose seating are warmed by coal stoves during colder weather so layered clothing is recommended. Schedules and equipment may change when necessary to maintain safe operations.
