This tour takes you deep into the heart of the Qatari desert to discover the awe-inspiring sculpture by renowned artist Richard Serra, located in the Brouq Nature Reserve. Set against the vast, open landscape, the monumental installation creates a powerful contrast with the surrounding desert, offering a truly unique and unforgettable visual experience. The area itself, Ras Brouq—a peninsula on Qatar’s west coast—is rich in archaeological significance, featuring evidence of prehistoric human activity and lending even more depth to your visit.
As you journey through this fascinating region, you’ll also explore some of its natural and cultural landmarks. Marvel at the Mushroom Rock Formation, a striking geological structure sculpted by wind over time. Visit the traditional Zekreet Village and take in the atmospheric ruins of Zekreet Fort, where the blend of history and nature paints a picture of Qatar’s lesser-known heritage. This tour combines art, nature, and history for a well-rounded desert adventure.

Richard Serra’s East-West/West-East stands in the Qatari desert as both a monument and a passage. Four towering steel plates stretch across a kilometer, connecting horizon to horizon. It’s not just sculpture—it’s a dialogue between earth, sky, scale, and the human journey.

East-West/West-East by Richard Serra is a massive outdoor art installation in Qatar’s Brouq Nature Reserve, near Zekreet. It consists of four towering steel plates, each over 14 meters high, stretching across the desert in a perfectly aligned row. The weathered steel blends with the landscape, creating a stark yet harmonious contrast with the open sky and rocky terrain. The remote location and silence add to its impact, making it feel almost otherworldly. Visiting requires an off-road vehicle, but the journey and the experience of standing between these towering monoliths in the vast desert make it worth the trip.

Accessible by sedan as well. There is an unpaved road now. Looks amazing rising tall in the middle of nowhere. Part of the trio with Film city and mystery village trip. Sunset time is a good photo opportunity.

Incredible sculpture amongst the desert sands and sun. Take a half day tour from Doha for the best experience, and to have someone to take group photos.

Beautiful area. Qatar doesn't have much to offer in terms of mountain ranges and so in to hike at, but it does have vast desert areas that are accessible and relatively safe to hike at. If you are looking for something different off the beaten path, check out the Zekreet area and go for a nice walk. Wear lots of Sunblock a good hat and bring at least 2 to 4 L of water with you. Great views, biodiversity, and experience. Hiking level: beginner (careful with kids).
